I think they are both exceptional, Drew. These photographs are actually tapping into what I feel when I am graced with your presence.

um. scary. so the new cut, it'll take me a minute to get used to it. but really, self portrait? its a freaking amazing shot, but not what i expected.

oh yeah, do you need a tissue?

Yeah, so this is an amazing photograph, but is it really you? Did you feel like it fit you much more now that you cut your hair, because I definitely think that it only works because of the new do and the glasses. The first thing I thought when I saw it was that is was very "set up," and I don't necessarily mean that is a bad thing, but I think it would have appeared much more true if you had taken the picture of someone else. That being said, it remains a wonderful picture. Each object in the scene having importance and symbolism combined with the camera angle and look on your face all make it a fascinating/disturbing photograph.

It's a strong image... no question about it. The color of the couch and the carpet are great together. The photograph in the background of the older couple is pretty frightening... and the tissue box makes me smile.

I just don't really think it feels representative of you though. Especially the rifle. I don't know. I do love the shot though.

This one i love -i don't know you very well of course but it seems more like you are playing a role rather than really showing who you are but either way it tells a story -like the one where you leave the couch and go on a shooting spree in the local supermarket parking lot.

i suppose there comes a time in a man's life when he just needs to get a rifle. the shaved head is a good indication of some kind of change that may relate to that. both wholesome and creepy, as american as it gets

Yeah that is a good point...very American.

At the risk of taking the imagination out of this- here's the story: The couple in the photo behind me are the deceased former residents of this house where I am temporarily living. The man recently killed himself with one of the many weapons stashed around the place and this is exactly how he left the living room. I didn't intend to offer an intimate portrait of myself that coincides with the 'real me'. I just felt that the scene I now occupy and its props/accoutrements can affect me even if I just pretend to fit in there.

the story behind this seems to meld in well with the times that we are living in and may be something just as necessary to reflect upon (for some people). seems like an interesting idea for a body of work.

Your explanation makes it creepy for me. I was initially struck by the energy in the image. The camera angle was probably the most influential aspect of the shot. Let me know if you want to smudge the place.
