Where's the tree?

it's implied.

What is that dog leash doing there?

I get that...I want to see the tree. I'm more interested in seeing what is being implied.

I'm kind of glad that were not getting a very literal image of tree work. But the work is only implied for us because we know you and what you do. The equipment isn't necessarily synonymous with the work of this environment. I don't have a problem with that. Derek chose to modify this with the title, and thats what helps it adhere to the topic. I think it also begs for a lot of examples of this occupational environment. This is some casual side-stage scene somehow associated with the arborists' changing location. Is their environment in the trees or in the truck bed or elsewhere? I want to see the other examples too.

I'm not sure I agree that titles should even be used. Words are helpful for identifying a place or giving a history, I guess...This is something I've been thinking about, lately. They may be helpful to further a perspective by providing an insight that may not be possible if the viewer is unfamiliar with the subject matter, but I really think if they are necessary then the imagery is falling short. I really want to see the tree because that is what creates all aspects of this particular environment. If it weren't for the tree, none of this would be needed or appropriate (ride with it). This does not mean that an actual (whole) tree has to be present, but you'd really have to be clever...please be clever. Even the inclusion of a cut limb or an arm covered in sap or saw dust. (this is all off of the top of my head, don't take it as an actual suggestion to include that subject matter) Otherwise, I think it may as well be a dog leash. These discussions are important and are a good source for all of us to learn from, in fact because it is creating a certain level of discussion, this may be the most valuable image since the initial round.

No titles ever? Usted loco!

Noemi Armstrong said...

That would be loca. Use them, but don't make the image dependent on them.

Titles notwithstanding, I can imagine countless vocations that you would document without showing the literal or the primary subject. Dentistry without teeth, or maybe a kayak not in the river. Sure the arborists' ideal location would be in a tree, but there's plenty of time spent on the ground.

i like this photo, but not because of the content inside or what it's about. I think i like it for its LACK of interest. It's a day in the life. not all moments are visually stimulating, and they dont have to be. that being said, does this mean that this photo is unimportant or anything else negative? its a simple "example" of the mundane, what are lives are really about. living in the moment and all that. Im starting to think that we are thinking too much.
p.s. i dont care if there's a tree or not and im pretty indifferent to weather or not a title is used.
